Mike Sakas

Like any other kid, Mike grew up reading National Geographic magazine and idolizing the adventurers, scientists, and storytellers who filled those pages. So it was no surprise that he grew up to work in the outdoor and adventure industry, first in Colorado and then all over Central and South Asia.

As a professional photographer based in Hong Kong, Mike is happiest when on assignment in far off places, documenting work of social, environmental, and historic significance that combine interesting subject matter with real purpose. His passion for social service has always guided his career, so when he wasn’t dangling from a harness over a deep ravine or trekking across a formidable desert, he was helping to advance a number of worthwhile projects like building mobile science labs in Tuk-tuks, and teaching photography out of a yurt to kids in Kyrgyzstan.

Luckily, in 2o16 he came across an article about the Hong Kong Chapter of the Explorers Club – he showed up to their monthly social gathering in Central, and four weeks later he was on a backcountry ski expedition with them in Kazakhstan. The rest is history.
